On Tuesday 28th January, EuropeActive's kicked-off FAIR+ first project meeting in Brussels. After successfully concluding the Forum for Anti-Doping in Recreational Sport Project (FAIR), which produced an extensive Final Report on existing doping prevention interventions and for food and food supplements across the EU 28, the FAIR+ project will keep the focus on doping in recreational sport with 3 main objectives:
- Looking into the existing prevalence of doping in recreational sport through a sample-based research and to investigate the societal and psychological motivations behind the use of doping at amateur level. Indeed, while over the years there have been several surveys conducted at the elite level and in fitness which determined the prevalence of doping practices, there is very little information about the broader recreational sport sector.
- The FAIR+ Guidelines (and the Anti-Doping Code of Conduct) will provide several recommendations on how to set-up effective educational campaigns targeting recreational sport coaches, instructors and trainers and eventually with indications on how to evaluate and measure their efficacy.
- The maintenance of the Forum for Anti-Doping in Recreational Sport. The Forum, organised in the framework of the old FAIR Project, has already become one of the most relevant occasion for European doping experts, institutions, academics and sport stakeholders to come together and there is a clear desire to see it continued.
