The 18th and 19th September, EuropeActive participated at the meeting of the CEN Working Group (CEN/TC 136/WG 2) for developing standards for fitness centres which took place in Amsterdam at the Basic Fit headquarter.
The voting countries reached an agreement by consensus on a first draft that now is going to be evaluated for amendments by member states. The latter takes on average a year.
At this stage, EuropeActive encourage all national associations and leading operators to coordinate with their national standards organisations so that they can directly input in them. The standards cover all aspects of the running of fitness centres, including topics of client contracts, emergency procedures, environmental conditions, hygiene and safety standards, levels of supervision, and qualifications of fitness staff. These standards will have direct consequences for thousands of fitness centres across Europe.
