Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council

Commissioner Marianne Thyssen: “Will make qualifications more transparent & comparable across Europe”

Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Education and Employment of Malta and Dr Owen Bonnici, Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government, brought together Member State’s ministers for the Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council. During the 2 days meeting May 22 and May 23 in Brussels, the council will debate and follow up on policy developments related to youth and education. Tomorrow’s session will focus on audiovisual/culture and the afternoon session will be on sport.

Today’s highlights include the presentation of the progress report for the Decision on a common framework for the provision of better services for skills and qualifications (Europass) and the adoption of the Recommendation on the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning. Europass is a highly appreciated tool to communicate skills and qualifications effectively when looking for a work placement or employee. The EYCS council meeting is of particular interest for EuropeActive due to its leading work in enhancing visibility of skills in the European Fitness sector, thus, developing and strengthening sectoral competences and qualifications.

EuropeActive is actively promoting the establishment of a formal link between sectoral fitness qualifications and the European Qualification Framework (EQF) with the SIQAF project. The adopted text of the recommendation will have a strong impact on project developments and will be discussed during the upcoming project meeting June 21 and June 22 in Gdansk, PL.
